New Zealand immigration is highly regulated.

There are two main pieces of legislation that are relevant to immigration in New Zealand,

1. Immigration Act of 2009
2. Immigration Advisers Licensing Act of 2007

Under the second act it is a punishable offense to provide immigration advice without having an authority or a license issued by the Immigration Adviser Authority (IAA).

Immigration Advisers are professionals who have completed a specific study course (at NZQA level 7) and registered with the IAA.
